Sorry about the missing post yesterday! I was not in school.
Spelling test will be tomorrow and the vocabulary test will be Friday.
Yesterday we had an adjective test. Not all of the kids finished it, due to the late start. We'll finish it today and then move on to commas tomorrow. This unit has a number of worksheets. I am not fond of worksheets, but this is just one of the skills that needs hands on practice in order to excel.

Final draft of the biographies are due on Friday. I have corrected their rough drafts and they will be getting those back today.
Book orders are due on Friday. The kids have a code that can be used for online ordering if you are interested.

Adjective worksheet: This is a hard one. I encouraged the kids to find the nouns first and then look for any adjectives that are describing the nouns. They have a quiz tomorrow over adjectives.

Rainbow spelling: Write your spelling words putting all vowels in one color and all consonants in another.

STUDY your vocabulary! I know I've said that a lot over the last week, but there is a reason for that...this test is much harder than usual.
By tomorrow the first two paragraphs of your biography should be done. The first paragraph is the introduction to your person. Remember that the questions you asked can't be mentioned in the first paragraph. Then...start writing. Make sure that the things that are grouped together in a paragraph all fit. Don't write about what they like to do in a paragraph about their looks.

Hard to believe that the first half of the year is over. Grades have now been turned in for second quarter. The report cards will be coming out in the next week or so. This week we have an early out on Wednesday.

We have been working hard on cause and effect during class. We have taken our final assessment on that skill. Kids who are still struggling will be doing some extra work during CPI time. Our next big skill is inference.

End of the semester! Because it is the end of the semester, we are finished with Spanish class. We will be replacing that time with a CPI/ study hall. During this time Mrs. Dickman and myself will be working with small groups of kids who need extra help with a certain skill. The kids who are not in that small group will be using that time as a study hall.

Draw in your muscles on your fold-able for science.
Notes came home today about the cancer fundraiser. That money is due back next week. The winning class will get a pizza party. Pizza will be donated by First Street Pizza. COOL!

Write at least 10 questions to ask your biography buddy tomorrow. This week's writing assignment is to write a biography about someone. We will be working on putting things in a logical order and in like paragraphs. At this time we are planning on having this due on Friday, but we'll see how it goes. I'd rather extend the due date and have GREAT biographies as opposed to hurrying and getting in poor work.

Coaches for Cancer: The kids are being asked to bring donations to school to help fund cancer research. They will be collecting money in their homeroom from tomorrow until the 17th. The class who raises the most funds will be getting a pizza party with the H.S. wrestling cheerleaders.

Happy New Year
It is great to be back. OK, not great to wake up early and have to put on dress clothes, but great to see the kids and get back into a routine. The kids are a mix today. Some look so sleepy and others look like they are so excited they can hardly stand it. New year= some new routines and activities for us. We will be doing a daily language activity and a daily comprehension activity for the next couple of months. We will still have our same schedule for spelling and vocabulary words. 5 days after the words have been introduced we will test over them. We will get new spelling words today and vocabulary tomorrow. That means that our spelling test will be next Monday and our vocabulary test next Tuesday. Check the wiki today for the words.

Kids who haven't passed 7 quizzes will be bringing home a reading log.
Our writing this week will take place during class time, so no weekly writing assignment this week.
