Earth Week recap

This week we did many activities to help the kids understand the importance of taking care of the earth!  They had a lot of fun doing it.

Monday: We worked with the second graders and made planet pals.  They turned out really cute!
Each pal holds a heart explaining what each student will do to help be a friend to the earth.

Tuesday: We watched a video about earth day.

Wednesday: We cleaned our school!  Lockers, desks, and binders were cleaned out and papers were recycled.  We watched a short video clip about recycling cans.

Thursday: We walked the trail north of the school picking up trash we found along the way.  Some of the students were convinced we found treasures instead of trash.  I'm hearing rumors that some of the "treasures" made their way home in the pockets of our kids. YUCK!

Friday: We made a poster to celebrate Earth Day. They are hanging around the school now, but will eventually make their way uptown to the local businesses.

The kids asked to postpone the book order due date to Monday, so book orders are due tomorrow.

The kids and I are glad to have Iowa Assessments done!  It wreaks havoc on our schedule.  Speaking of messed up schedules, I think that is the theme this year!  Check out the dates below and mark your calendar.

Our last book order of the year is due Friday (Haugen's homeroom only)

Iowa Assessments are now 1/2 over!  The kids seem to be doing well and taking it seriously.  It made me a little nervous today when they said it was "easy"!  Let's hope it really was.  We will be testing tomorrow and Thursday as well.

Thursday afternoon NIACC will be here to prep us for our trip there next week.

Friday afternoon is our movie.  Please feel free to bring a snack, drink, and pillow/blanket.

Our science test is tomorrow.  The kids voted yesterday and decided they weren't quite ready yet.  I think they wanted to spend another day playing Matter Jeopardy!!  It is a long test, but they've been learning about matter for weeks and I'm sure they'll do fine!

Spelling words have been updated on the wiki (test Friday)  Vocab has also (test Monday)

Million dollar paragraph for homework!

NIACC trip

 Entrepreneur for a day
April 18th the 5th grade students will be going to NIACC for the day to learn to be entrepreneurs.  This is a very exciting, educational experience for the students. Their instructors will be from the college.  They will be put into groups and each student will be given a different profession.  Some students will be the boss, while others will be accountants, marketing managers etc… Luckily for us, the costs of this trip have been covered by the Wright County EDC.  The only thing your child needs is to bring their own lunch.
Due to some scheduling problems, I think this will be our last field trip of the year.  I’ll let you know if that changes!

Mrs. Haugen

Friday movie

Lunchroom movie party….
Friday afternoon we will be watching a movie in the lunchroom with all 5th and 6th grade students.  This is our big thank you to the kids for doing so much during the RAMM “Change the World with a Book” program.  The kids are welcome to bring a pillow or blanket, as we will be sitting on the floor.  They can also bring a snack and drink for themselves.  Way to go kids!  Your teachers are proud of your reading efforts.
