Happy Wednesday!

The kids really had their brains stretched today!! We worked on some difficult Thesaurus activities.  If they are frustrated, just remind them that things don't always come easy, and they WILL get it!  Tomorrow is our first spelling test.  Kids who passed the pretest will not be taking the test tomorrow.  Their grade from the pretest will count as their test grade.  Friday we will be having a vocabulary test.  They have the words in their blue spelling/vocab folder.  I also posted the words earlier in the week on this blog.  If you click HERE you can play an online study game to help you. We were set to take a quiz over the 4 types of sentences on Friday, but I don't think the kids are ready, so I'm moving it to Tuesday of next week.

HOMEWORK
If your child is Mrs. Mick's homeroom, you have a worksheet on sentence types for homework today.  All three sections have read 20 minutes and study!

Chorus began today.  Remember if you would like your child to be in Honor Choir, have them return the sign up sheet by Friday!

Why are there different homework assignments for different classes?

Some of you are wondering why I am listing homework that is different for different classes.... not all three classes move at the same pace.  They will all eventually do similar assignments.  Don't be surprised or concerned.  It is called differentiation.  I change my instruction and assignments depending on the needs of my students.  That way we can all move towards meeting all of our 5th grade goals successfully.  So if something says Bram's homeroom:  and then lists and assignment, it means only Bram's homeroom kids will do that assignment. Still have questions about how that works??? Shoot me an email or give me a call!

Homework tonight:
Read 20 minutes
Constitution sentence types worksheet
Spelling spree (not all students have this assignment)

Study for Thursday's spelling test
Study for Friday's vocab test
Study for Friday's sentence types quiz

We had a terrific assembly this morning to learn about the Bronco Pride expectations in all of the common areas of our building.  The kids went from area to area to learn about the rules.  When they completed the Bronco Pride Academy, they got a treat.

The kids took a spelling pretest today.  The students who got an A+ or missed one will not have to do the take home assignments this week in spelling.  They will also not have to retake the test on Friday.

WELCOME TO 5TH GRADE!!

We had a CRAZY-busy first day!  The kids met with all three of their fifth grade teachers.  We ate a sack lunch in the classrooms, and then headed out for community service.  I bet they are worn out. Well, I am anyway!

Mrs. Kinseth and I walked with my homeroom to City Park.  We pulled weeds, raked leaves, and picked up trash.  I learned that a lot of fifth graders don't know what weeds look like.

2 of the sections of fifth graders got a small homework assignment today.  I gave them a contact information sheet for their parents to fill out.  The other section of kids will be getting it tomorrow.

Calendar items:
Pictures are on August 26
Happy Birthday to Kylie, today.
