La Bamba Lip Sync: Next Wednesday at 1:10 the kids will be performing a lip sync to a song of their choosing. This is an optional activity. In the story that we just finished the main character lip syncs to the song La Bamba in a talent show. The kids have been told that they have to check the song with me so I can Google the lyrics for appropriateness. They also need to practice at least three times before Wed. so that it doesn't look like they just decided to do it a couple of minutes before class. This should be a fun activity for them. I even showed them what it would look like by performing Respect by Aretha Franklin...may have looked a little funny if anyone would have walked in on us :)

Homework for tonight:
Final draft of the Veteran's Day essay is due tomorrow. Some of the kids have major rewrites to do. The question they were to answer was...What is your favorite symbol of Freedom and why? Most of the kids were forgetting the WHY!

The new spelling and vocabulary words are on the wiki. WE are back on track for a spelling test and vocab test each 5 days. The spelling test will be Friday and the Vocab test will be Monday.

WOW...the three day weekend really energized the fifth grade vocal chords! They really wanted to chat today:) Thank you to all of the parents that made it to conferences last week. It was really great visiting with you. As always, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns...feel free to contact me any time. You don't have to wait until conference night!

Homework for tonight: Read 20 minutes. The new reading log is pink. Just sign next to the day of the week. A few kids had me sign their logs because they read during study hall.

Both sections have the first draft of their Freedom Essay due tomorrow.

Homework for the weekend...

#1...enjoy your long weekend

#2....begin working on your Veteran's Day writing assignment. This is due on Tuesday (rough draft). The topic is, what is your favorite symbol of freedom. It has to be between 100-150 words long.

#3...Mrs. Haugen's group needs to finish their fragment worksheet.

Reading counts quiz number 4 was due on Monday. There are TONS of kids that are late with their books at this time. Please remember that reading each night is a homework assignment. It is NOT optional.
