WELCOME TO 5TH GRADE!!

We had a CRAZY-busy first day!  The kids met with all three of their fifth grade teachers.  We ate a sack lunch in the classrooms, and then headed out for community service.  I bet they are worn out. Well, I am anyway!

Mrs. Kinseth and I walked with my homeroom to City Park.  We pulled weeds, raked leaves, and picked up trash.  I learned that a lot of fifth graders don't know what weeds look like.

2 of the sections of fifth graders got a small homework assignment today.  I gave them a contact information sheet for their parents to fill out.  The other section of kids will be getting it tomorrow.

Happy Birthday to Kylie, today.

Last day

Don't forget your lunch tomorrow!

Google docs

We’ve been working with Google Docs for the last few weeks and the kids are really getting the hang of it. They are really enjoying the comments that I am able to leave them directly on their writing.  They can then respond to my comments, fix their writing and resubmit for a higher grade....

Several students have asked if they can continue to write letters, journal or diary entries, book reviews, stories, etc… and submit them to me over the summer. The answer is ABSOLUTELY yes! I will happily check my Google account kendra.haugen@bkcsd.org  and respond back to their writing. Anything that keeps them thinking, reading, and writing is great with me.  I have included their username and password below, as well as reminder instructions, just in case they forget how to log in and share.

1.  Go to google.com
2. Click the blue box that says SIGN IN
3.  Put in username: ___@bkcsd.org
4. Put in password: _________________
5.  Click on the apps box up by sign in and go to Drive
6. Click on Create (upper left hand corner) and pick document
7. Name your document
8. Type whatever you’d like
9. Click on Share
10. Type my email under invite people kendra.haugen@bkcsd.org
11. Then click done

I will check my computer and respond as often as I can!

No homework tonight!

Tuesday: 3 hours of class in the morning and then we will be cleaning up the trail

Please remember to send a lunch for the kids on Wednesday.  We will have a short assembly that day and then have class for about 3 hours.  We will then have our sack lunches and play in a kickball tourney with the other two groups of fifth graders.
