Writing:
We are working on the different stages of writing. Last week we learned about pre-writing. We will continue with that this week, and begin on the writing step. We will also begin writing poetry using our figurative language.
Grammar:
Our newest part of speech is the adjective. We will be eating adjectives on Wednesday...look for the students to come home with a whole new appreciation for adjectives!
Reading:
We will have a couple of areas of concentration this week in reading. We will begin to build our reading stamina. Many of our students struggle staying focused on their books for more than a couple of minutes. 5th graders should be able to read for at least 20 minutes, without getting up, looking around, or losing their focus.
We will be reading and discussing many different poems this week.
Science:
This is going to be a great week in science. We'll be finishing up our Cycles in Nature unit, with a test on Friday. Students will be able to use their notes for this test!
We'll also be working on Computer Science all week, since this is National Computer Science Week!
