Things to do this weekend....wonder how many days of school we will miss next week because of our impending snowstorm.  That seems to be all the kids can think about today!  OK, not just the kids, but the teachers too.

If things go as scheduled, we'll be FAST testing this week.  This is the assessment that tells us what the kids' fluency and comprehension scores are.  Our spelling test over Yang the 2nd  will be Tuesday, and our vocab on Wednesday.

Our next RC quiz is due on Monday, so spend this weekend reading!  The kids have two different reading challenges for the month of February.  The Survivor challenge: To read and pass all 13
 I Survived books 

The other challenge is "It's a Ball to read books over our lexile".  This time of year, kids are starting to lose the desire to read every night, so I try and come up with catchy ways to keep their attention.  They are really buying into these two challenges!

We took our pretest today over the Yang the 2nd spelling words. The test will be next Tuesday.  The vocabulary test over these words will be next Wednesday.

With our shortened schedule, only one of the three classes got their new spelling words, therefore, our pretest won't be until Wednesday!

Monday is our Mom's Best Friend vocabulary test.  The words are pretty easy this week.  If you want to practice, go here!

We spent our spelling time last week working on Greek and Latin prefixes, suffixes, and root words.  There was no actual spelling list last week.  The assignment for the weekend is to finish the packet.  MOST kids finished in class on Friday.

Our grammar focus has been to review what we know about capitalization.  The students know, that from now on, on assignments that are to be in complete sentences, capitalization errors will count against them.  They had a worksheet to finish for Monday on capitalization.  They are doing REALLY well on this.

Our next RC test will be due on Friday, January 29th.  It is quiz #9.

FAST tests are coming up the first week in February.  These are the tests that the kids took near the beginning of the year that measure their fluency and comprehension.  Nothing to study for!

Our reading focus last week was summarizing.  The kids read articles on blindness (went with our story of the week), and had to summarize and present to the class. This week we'll finish up Mom's Best Friend, and move on to Yang the Second.  We'll work with compare and contrast.
