NIACC Entrepreneur for a day

Yesterday we had some guest teachers from NIACC.  They came to work with our students on preparing for next week's visit to NIACC.  Students learned about budgeting, opening their own businesses, advertising, business ethics, and so much more.

Tuesday we'll head over to NIACC to extend our learning.  We'll spend the whole day there.  Students need to bring their own lunches.

Amazing, individualized learning experiences!

Today we worked on our solar system unit.  The kids worked on their lessons in a new way.  We worked using what's called blended learning. (Blended learning involves online and face-to-face instruction. Both are used alongside each other in order to provide a comprehensive learning experience. For example, a trainer might give learners a list of online resources they can use to broaden their understanding of the topic, or ask them to complete an online group project that centers on a subject they are currently discussing. In the case of blended learning, online materials do not take the place of face-to-face instruction; instead, the two modalities complement one another. They truly “blend” in order to create an enriched online training environment for the learner.) In this type of learning, the students work their way through various reading texts and video links, and then complete a digital activity/worksheet.  They are able to work at their own pace, and be in control of their learning.  Students who are already familiar with the topic may move faster than others.  If a student struggles learning the material, they can ask for one-on-one help from me, or they can rewatch or reread the lesson.  They were so involved and engaged, that I could have heard a pin drop.  I just had to stop and record it!
