Student blog posts: Career Day

Tyler Owen, who owns his own company, talked to Jacobson Elementary students.  He's currently designing the game Lacuna Passage with his brother.  He went  to the University of Dubuque and learned how to do his artwork.  He made the game Devine in high school.  He has his brother helping him with this career.

Tyler Owen, who makes video games, came to the Bemond- Klemme High School to talk to the 5th and 6th graders.  His first game was IceBerg Frenzy.  The game he is working on now is Lacuna Passage.  The Kickstart of the game was $56,000.  He wears glasses.  He uses his free time to make his games.

Tyler Owens, game designer, came to Career Day at the high school auditorium.  He made a game called Lacuna Passage.  He has taken 4 years and is still working on it.  He worked in his bedroom with his brother.  He made $53000 in a fundraiser to make his game.  He has also made flash games.  In college he worked with computers.  He is friends with Counselor Johnson.

Jessie Dirks, a physical therapist, helps people of all ages with their pain. She is Counselor Johnson's sister.  She helps athletes.  She lives in Marshalltown, Iowa.  She also helps patients with hurt muscles.

Jessie Dirks, who is a physical therapist, taught the 5th and 6th graders about her job on Career Day.  Jessie usually works with athletes and surgery patients.  She works with hips when she does her job.  She went to ISU for college.  She is Counselor Johnson's sister.  She works on a lot of body parts, like rotater cuffs.

Jessie Dirks is a physical therapist.  She helps people with sports injuries such as hips and joints.  She lives in Marshalltown and works long hours.  She went to ISU.  She has a sister named Counselor Johnson, who set up Career Day.

     Kody Trampel, who works at Max Yield, came to talk to us on Career Day.  He works with about 60 different people a day.  He graduated from ISU in 2008. His mom is our PE teacher.  She is Kay Kern. During Career Day we talked about his use of drones that cost $98 billion.  Sometimes it's dangerous being an agronomist because you can pass out.  He worked at Max Yield Cooperative for 5 years and is still working there.  Kody helps about 14 people a day.

Kody Trampel, an agronomist, came to Career Day to teach us about his job.  He went to ISU.  He works for Max Yield.  He is Mrs. Kern's son.  He works with up to 50 clients.  He has a sister named Natalie, at our high school.

Kody Trampel, who is an agronomist, came to Career Day.  He works on a farm and is like a doctor for plants.  He works with farmer's fields, and at Max Yield.  He has a little sister.  He is the son of Mrs. Kern.  He told us that there are enough pigs in Iowa, that every person could have 6!

     Scott Wenger, and engineer at NASA, spoke to 5th and 6th grade students at Career Day.  NASA stands for National Aeronautics and Space Administration.  He works at the space station in Alabama.  Scott didn't always want to be an electrical engineer, he used to want to be a professional game player, but his account got hacked.  He was a good friend with Counselor Johnson in high school.  He took apart computers at his high school, and this is when he started to want to be an engineer.  He used to like to put computers back together, after he took them apart.

Scott Wenger came to Career Day to teach us about his NASA career in electrical engineering.  Scott went to Iowa University.  He is an electrical engineer.  He is Counselor Johnson's friend.  He works for NASA.  He is good at math and science.

Scott Wenger, who works at NASA, came to Career Day on Friday, April 24th, 2015, to talk to the 5th and 6th grades about his job.  The NASA he works at is in Huntsville, Alabama.  He told us that two containers of liquid oxygen and nitrogen make the space shuttle go up.  He works with the wiring of the shuttles.  Scott has never been to space, but he has seen quite a few lift offs.  He went to UNI for 5 years.

     Alyssa Lahr, fashion designer, spoke to Jacobson Elementary on  Friday, April 24th. She is from Florida.  She works at Chicos.  She also talked to us at the auditorium.  She wears a tape measure around her neck.  Also, she makes all types of clothes.  She designs sweater.

Alyssa Lahr Skyped with Belmond 5th and 6th graders to teach us about her fashion job.  She works at Chicos.  Alyssa Lahr makes sweaters.  She went to Iowa State University.  She took math and sewing classes.  She lives in Florida.

Alyssa Lahr is a fashion designer.  She Skyped with us on Career Day, to talk about her job.  She works in Florida for Chicos.  She creates sweaters made of 100% cotton.  She works 14 hours a day.  She went to ISU.  She designs clothes for only women and girls.  She started designing when she was 14.
