11-23-14

We're in for a short week next week.  Remember we only have school Monday and Tuesday. The kids won't have new spelling or vocabulary words.  We'll start over fresh when we come back in December.

Last week we worked on homophones and conjunctions.  We finished the story Fear Place.  We worked on using clues from the story to make predictions and inferences.  We learned the difference between the literary techniques of foreshadowing and flashbacks.

We will continue these skills this week and also do some creative Thanksgiving writing!

Our next quiz (#6) is due when we come back from Thanksgiving break, so keep reading over break.

Homework:
Front and back of homophone crossword
Mayflower story and questions

PBIS reward day

Today our elementary earned a PBIS school wide party. Not sure what PBIS is? It stands for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports. It is a program that teaches kids what our expectations are for each area of the building. We began... our implementation of this program last year, with full implementation this year. Our kids call this program Bronco Pride.

Our Bronco Pride expectations are BE SAFE, CARE FOR OTHERS, DO WHAT'S RIGHT, and DO YOUR BEST. When students are spotted showing their Bronco Pride, they can earn token for their class. Each quarter, students who earn their way in, will be participating in our end of the quarter acknowledgement activity. Students are taught that they can show Bronco Pride anywhere they are, EVEN at home! Ask your child what the Bronco Pride expectations are!

Here are some pictures of the kids celebrating in my room.

We have all earned the right to participate in our first quarter PBIS token reward party.  Our fifth graders may wear pajamas to school on Friday.  They may bring their favorite board game, and a drink.  During our small group time, the kids will be given a snack.  They will get 30 minutes of game time!  Way to go...keep showing your Bronco Pride.

Email issues

We have had a problem with emails getting "stuck" in our filters.  It seems like it is especially likely when the emails are from Yahoo and Gmail.  If you have sent one of us an email in the last couple of weeks and we didn't respond....we DID NOT get it!  Please resend or call.  I think the filter has been fixed. If you ever send me an email and I don't respond within 24 hours, please try again.  I check my email several times a day and I will always get back with you.
