Conferences:
Remember, due to conferences next week, there will be no class on Monday or Friday.  On Tuesday and Thursday, the kids will be getting out at 2:00.  Conferences will be from 3-7:00. You do not have a scheduled time for 5th/6th grade conferences.  It is run like the jr. high and high school. You can see either Ms. Bram or I...or both of us.  Just stop in whenever you get a chance!

I'm so excited...

Image result for so excited

Starting next week....we will be taking one day a week to work on Computer Science, as part of our science curriculum.  I explained our plan to the kids yesterday, and they are so excited as well.  We will be working on problem solving skills using coding, and programming.

The science standards that this program will meet are:
Define a simple design problem reflecting a need or a want that includes specified criteria for success and constraints on materials, time, or cost.

Generate and compare multiple possible solutions to a problem based on how well each is likely to meet the criteria and constraints of the problem.

Plan and carry out fair tests in which variables are controlled and failure points are considered to identify aspects of a model or prototype that can be improved.

Math standard: Reason abstractly and quantitatively.

REAL life skills: critical thinking skills, problem solving, persistance

I really think our kids will benefit from these activities. Be on the lookout for more information as we begin this adventure! Also, be ready to hear lots of enthusiasm from the students! I really think they are going to be excited about this!

How can you help from home? Ask questions. Listen to them explain what they are learning. Donate batteries. In order to work on some of our programming activities, we are in need of AAA batteries. If you happen to have some around the house, we could definitely use them.

Due tomorrow

End of the month, end of the unit, end of homecoming....wow, tomorrow's going to be busy!

I went home from school with a nasty sore throat today, so I'm going to put the plans that I left for the sub on the blog.  It's possible, that the substitute didn't get as far as I had planned, so no worries if you didn't get this homework all assigned.  We'll figure it out tomorrow!

Homework:
Alphabetize your spelling words
Hand in your spelling worksheet
Finish your volcano worksheet and quiz
Science worksheet on digestive system
Read 20 minutes
