Last post of the year...

It has truly been an honor to work with this group of 5th graders.  I have enjoyed getting to know each and every one of them.  That isn't to say we haven't had days where they wanted to pull their hair out and/or I wanted to pull out mine.  Growing and learning can be a difficult process! I wish them all the best as they move on to 6th grade.  I look forward to watching them continue to grow across the hallway, and then across the parking lot!  Parents, thank you all for entrusting your children to Krista and I.  Students,  thanks for making me smile!  Have a great summer!

P.S.  Don't forget your lunch tomorrow!

Our last Tuesday

What a beautiful day for a track meet.  The kids had lots of fun.  It was a little toasty and we all smelled a lot like sunscreen, but was really fun!  No homework tonight of course.

Tomorrow....Each class has guidance.
We are making a fifth grade yearbook.
Haugen's homeroom has their box top winning pizza party.
Locker clean out!  Bring a bag to take stuff home.

Thursday:  Bring your lunch!

No homework due on Monday.  All grades are due for us on Monday morning at 8:00.  Any unfinished assignments will then turn into a zero.  Lots of exciting things going on at school this week.  I'm sure it will go VERY quickly!

Monday: Share our piggyback songs with the class
    Listen to songs and poems that tell a story
    Experiments during science

Tuesday: Track meets

Wednesday: Haugen's group has the pizza party for winning the box tops contest!  Way to go. We had   almost 5000 box tops! We will also be making a yearbook to take home!  Experiments in the afternoon.

Thursday: Last day for kids!  Bring a bag or two to take home your things.

What an educational day for me.  I went to a behavior conference in Des Moines and it was terrific!  I learned so many new ideas and strategies for helping kids reach their fullest potential!  Even better, I got back to school and found a VERY positive note about the behavior of the kids today.  That makes me very proud.

What an amazing event we attended today! Almost 8000 5th graders attended Exercise your Character in Des Moines at Hy-Vee Hall.  We were able to hear several famous people talk about the importance of good character and being healthy. The speakers were BJ Armstrog (former NBA player),Winter Vilecki (13 year old marathon runner), Billy Cundiff (NFL kicker), the head football coach for ISU, and the inventors of the Interlude Dance.  We did lots of dancing and singing and learning!  WOW!  They then fed us a healthy lunch and sent us home.  To top it all off...the kids were once again AMAZING!  They never cease to amaze me.

Mrs. Dickman and I had to attend a meeting this afternoon.  We had to leave the rooms at noon and didn't make it back before the end of the day.  I am assuming this is what was assigned, but just in case....we'll deal with it tomorrow.

Remember to wear your red shirt for tomorrow's field trip to Des Moines for Exercise your Character. It is an amazing field trip that I am really looking forward to.

Don't bring a lunch.  It is provided by HyVee.

I will be out of the district Wednesday and Thursday of this week.  I will be attending a behavior conference in Des Moines with several other teachers in the district on Wed. and taking my son on a college visit on Thursday.  What a wacky week!  I am looking forward to a boring old school week next week :)
