How much homework should a fifth grader have?

HOMEWORK QUESTIONS:
There have been a few questions lately dealing with how much homework kids should have at each grade level.  I'm not claiming to be a homework expert, but I did want to share with you the research that we are using when deciding the amount of homework to give the kids each night...

Cooper points to "The 10-Minute Rule" formulated by the National PTA and the National Education Association, which suggests that kids should be doing about 10 minutes of homework per night per grade level. In other words, 10 minutes for first-graders, 20 for second-graders and so on.

Children are all different learners.  Some will take longer and some will take shorter amount of time to finish the same work.  Our goal is for the kids to have 50 minutes or less Monday-Thursday.  If your child is CONSISTENTLY working for more than an hour on homework, please contact me and let's see what's going on.
