Reminders from the couch...

Hi guys, this post is from Mrs. Haugen.  Just a reminder that next week is Spring Break, so you'll all have plenty of time to....READ!  Your next quiz is due when you get back from break, so don't forget to read over your break.

Other things to remember:
If you are participating in Educare afterschool program, it starts March 16 at 3:45.
If you have any questions that I can answer from home, send me an email.  If you need more immediate help, call my room and speak to Mrs. Wagner.  I am missing you all a great deal!!!

Well, I've had my surgery and I'm back home recuperating. Mrs. Wagner will continue to be my sub for the next couple of weeks.  I will be able to check my email on a regular basis, so if there is something specific that you need in the next couple of week, just shoot me an email.  Mrs. Wagner will update the blog with assignments on a daily basis. She'll be recording grades on paper, and I'll put them into the computer when I return, so don't be surprised if the grades on parent portal don't change in the next couple of weeks. Thank you all for your support.

RTI schedule...

Dear 5^th grade parents,

In our 5^th grade schedule, we have an RTI time built in. RTI means Response to Intervention.  This means, kids working on the skills that they need to work on.  It is a great concept where kids get extra time in the areas they need the most.  Up to this point, we have shared the kids between the three teachers.  Each day of the cycle they were with a different teacher working on different skills.  For the next couple of months, our RTI time is becoming more intense.  One group of kids will be staying in my RTI (READING) each day.  We chose these kids using their FAST test scores.  Anyone who scored below the required score, and those who were close to this score, will be with me.  We will be using 20 minutes each day on intense reading instruction.  After the next FAST test, we will reevaluate and make a decision on who is going where for RTI.  If you have any questions, give me a call, or I can talk to you about it next week at conferences.  Remember, my conferences are on Monday 16^th and Tuesday 17^th from 4-7, due to my upcoming surgery.

Movie during the afternoon for Valentine's Day- bring a snack and a pillow if you'd like!

Conferences note

I sent this note home several days ago, and have still not heard back from some families.  I thought I'd include it here, in case your child forgot to bring it home.  If you'd like another copy, please let me know!

Dear 5th grade parents,
As you may or may not know, I am going to have surgery in February.  I will be gone for at least 2 weeks.  I have scheduled my surgery so that spring break falls in my recovery time, to try and limit the number of days I have to be away from the kids.  Because of the date of the surgery, I will not be available for conferences on the scheduled conference evenings.  It is important to me that I get a chance to share your child's progress with you, so I'm planning on making myself available on other evenings.  If you are not interested on coming on separate nights to see me, and then the other two teachers, that is fine.  They can hand out a written conference note with your child's progress.  There are several options.  Please check below and pick the option that works best for you.  Thank you.  I hope to be back up and running in no time!
