Starting Monday we will have a student teacher in our classroom. She sent home a note with the kids today to introduce herself. Her name is Ms. Deutsch. She will be observing the class for the most part, next week. Then she will gradually start taking over some of the instruction each day. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Coming next week as well...
We will begin our poetry unit. This will take us at least two weeks! It is very intensive with lots of Iowa Core Standards that need to be covered. The kids will have things that they need to study off and on during this unit.
Our spelling and vocabulary will take on a different look for the next few weeks as well, as it won't be going with the stories in the Houghton Mifflin series. The kids got their spelling words a few days ago, and will be getting their vocabulary on Monday. Mrs. Mick's group will be using a vocabulary book for their assignments for the next few weeks.

Happy Valentine's Day to all! We had a great afternoon watching our movies. The kids were able to chose between three choices and eat their snacks.
We did an Olympic activity this morning with the fifth and sixth grade classes mixed. The kids learned about the history of the Olympics and the rings. We made a snowflake "rings" art project. It was fun to get to mix the kids up with those from other classes.
Remember to send your food pantry donations before the end of February! We've collected quite a bit so far.
Olympic reading contest: To be a gold medal reader, you have to read and pass 3 RC quizzes in your lexile.
The library is participating in some Olympic fun with us. The kids can go to the library and earn some DOJO points by completing an Olympic activity.
No homework for the weekend, and remember there is NO SCHOOL on Monday!

Biography posters and projects are now finished, as well as our published writing! We will begin giving our speeches next week. The kids are going to work a couple of days on some of their speaking skills as well. I'm very proud of their excitement and enthusiasm for this project. There were so many standards that were being covered during this particular project, that I thought maybe they'd get a little frustrated. They didn't, they're still going strong!
Reminder...MAP testing begins next week on the 10th, 11th and 12th. Please make sure your children get a good night's sleep and breakfast each day before the tests. Also, please make sure your child gave you the notes about their upcoming concert and Valentine's Day parties!! Also, a couple of classes have a reward coming up next week for DOJO points, and comprehension scores!
Homework:
Write each spelling word twice.
Reread Yang the Second for those students who didn't pass the RC test the first time.
